Project narrative

A biomass district-energy plant and heat-distribution network serving the civic core, built through two mountain winters on a constrained rail-adjacent parcel.

The challenge

Winter shutdown windows, a CP rail right-of-way on two boundaries and a 4.6 km distribution loop running under active municipal roads left almost no float in the programme.

Our approach

We pre-assembled the boiler hall steel in Kamloops and trucked complete bents to site, then heated and hoarded the foundation works to keep pours going at −18 °C. Distribution trenching ran in 300-metre blocks with staged traffic management agreed with the City.

The outcome

The plant came online for the 2022 heating season and now supplies 34 civic and commercial buildings, displacing an estimated 4,900 tonnes of CO₂e each year.
